Elmarit has arrived.. on Flickr.
My Elmarit has arrived! Arugably one of the best lenses for the M8, this 28mm f2.8 is in ridiculously mint condition. It’s from 1981, and is a Version 3. The bokeh is amazing and so is the close focusing (.7 meter, leica max) It comes out to be a 37mm on the camera, and is JUST right, in my opinion. Can’t wait to show the photos. —- Also alot of special announcements coming soon.. Got lots brewing!

Film Photographer Friday - #003

February Friday 10, 2012 - Film Photography Friday #003

n-y-l, also known as artddicted

A wide range of gear is being used here, in brief, a Leica M6, Leica III, Nikon FE2, Nikon F3, Rollei 35S, Pentax 67, Nikon FM2, Hasselblad Xpan, Hasselblad 500CM, Voigtlander Bessa R3a, Leica Summicron, Canon 50mm f1.8……. and alllllllllot more I couldn’t list them all.

In short, this photographer excels whatever equipment is used.

There is a great feeling of continuation in all of these photos. They are best appreciated when you look at them all, it’s a storyline. Some photographers are better at individual photos, but I couldn’t help but be intrigued in clicking the next photo in n-y-l’s tumblr.

The intrigue is also based on location. There is no doubting, a location can always help a photograph. I love being able to see a different country from the eyes of one who lives or travels in it. This is actually a great trait of the internet, and even more social sites like tumblr, and flickr. You having to manually enter an image in, to share to people, is a huge positive.

The photographers eye though, is the determining factor. How n-y-l wants to portray these places, to me is fantastic. Shoot more, and figure it out later; that’s what I feel from these. This style is fantastic. I love the rawness of the images, the fact that sometimes they aren’t the best shots ever but it doesn’t matter, it intrigues you to move on to the next.

Then when you do run across a fantastic shot; it’s surreal and intense in what he is showing us. The isolation is immense, almost dream like. Street photographer doesn’t have to always be about depth of field, using isolation to break down the image, narrow a subject out is always fantastic to me.

His work also carries traits through the different equipment he uses. The style and signature of each camera, lens combo really does create the environment.  This Xpan shot for example, is a great case of just that.

Please do check his work out, and his colour tumblr as well. There is a flickr link somewhere in there too.

I hope you enjoy this, and please “love” and send me suggestions. Til next Friday.

It’s been one year since I got my M6, and the decision to combine pleasure and business came across not too long ago.. Eventually, it ended up like this today.

Without doubt i’ll be shooting film still, I can never drop that. My goal is to either find another M2 (my original M body that I do rather love well) or a metered Voigtlander Bessa. Sooner or later, depends on the source, and money.. but I love the thought of being able to share these awesome lenses between the two.

For now, I will concentrate on the Olympus OM-2 I have, as well as start dabbing with some black and whites from this beaut.

Back to business as usual ;)

Sorry for repost, it originally posted, then messed up (?) then disappeared, and back again..

Unfortunately during my recent trek to Cleveland, not only did my Polaroid 350 shots on Fuji FP-100C mess up (they stuck together and got ruined), My M6 also suffered from the cold—freezing up the film transport and causing me not to be able to shoot.

Now i’ve discovered my newly acquired Nikkor also has bit the cold. It’s been taken away now, and replaced with something I was shocked was offered to me!

A 1976 Leitz Wetzlar Leica Summicron 50mm f/2, Type III.

That was mostly unexpected.

Now back to normal service.

Leica M6, continuation of my M journey.

I mentioned earlier about the M2’s departure to it’s new owner, while I had the opportunity to get an M6. It’s an M6 “Classic” referring to the early build dates, but with the Leica red stamp instead of Leitz, so right before the next batch. It’s a really nice camera and i’ve run 2 test rolls with it so far (one roll was accidentally double exposed with the owner of the camera prior). I’m not going to lie, it’s nice having a meter in it. With all the different light conditions and changing inside and out this makes it a lot easier and not have to worry about speculate lighting. Overall this camera is a joy to operate. I love Leica’s.

I’m looking forward to taking heaps of photos tomorrow, and develop them to post!
