n-y-l, also known as artddicted
http://n-y-l.tumblr.com
A wide range of gear is being used here, in brief, a Leica M6, Leica III, Nikon FE2, Nikon F3, Rollei 35S, Pentax 67, Nikon FM2, Hasselblad Xpan, Hasselblad 500CM, Voigtlander Bessa R3a, Leica Summicron, Canon 50mm f1.8……. and alllllllllot more I couldn’t list them all.
In short, this photographer excels whatever equipment is used.
There is a great feeling of continuation in all of these photos. They are best appreciated when you look at them all, it’s a storyline. Some photographers are better at individual photos, but I couldn’t help but be intrigued in clicking the next photo in n-y-l’s tumblr.

The intrigue is also based on location. There is no doubting, a location can always help a photograph. I love being able to see a different country from the eyes of one who lives or travels in it. This is actually a great trait of the internet, and even more social sites like tumblr, and flickr. You having to manually enter an image in, to share to people, is a huge positive.
The photographers eye though, is the determining factor. How n-y-l wants to portray these places, to me is fantastic. Shoot more, and figure it out later; that’s what I feel from these. This style is fantastic. I love the rawness of the images, the fact that sometimes they aren’t the best shots ever but it doesn’t matter, it intrigues you to move on to the next.

Then when you do run across a fantastic shot; it’s surreal and intense in what he is showing us. The isolation is immense, almost dream like. Street photographer doesn’t have to always be about depth of field, using isolation to break down the image, narrow a subject out is always fantastic to me.

His work also carries traits through the different equipment he uses. The style and signature of each camera, lens combo really does create the environment. This Xpan shot for example, is a great case of just that.
Please do check his work out, and his colour tumblr as well. There is a flickr link somewhere in there too.
I hope you enjoy this, and please “love” and send me suggestions. Til next Friday.

I’m not terribly sure what equipment he is using, I did see some GRD III images in there, regardless; it’s not about the equipment.
analogfilmdork gets in your face.
To me a similar style to that of William Klein. An almost confrontational in your face, i’m getting this shot. There’s also another side, the floating on the streets without conflict snapping away that is really something unique. The lens he uses is perfect for this style, it’s very much defining a key element, and having the depth really follow.
There photographs we will define in our future, are those taken now, with full context of what is going on..
I actually read a comment after watching DigitalRev’s Do’s and Don’ts of street photography.
“I don’t understand the point, it’s just people doing things, it’s not even aesthetically pleasing”
Truth is, you may not understand or enjoy it but it’s the very essence of observation that we take interest in street photography. It’s people, and whether you admit or not, you are an observer of the world; not just product photography–or set-up glamour.
The beauty of analogfilmdorks photography is just that, it’s real. It’s now, and it’s everything deep inside you see and etch in your mind that he’s captured. It’s really good stuff, please check him out.
Hope you enjoy this, please “love” and send me suggestions. Til next Friday.
Film Photographer Friday - #001
Since our lovely system of finding new photographers is kinda limited to what is ‘insanely’ popular (tumblr’s words). I’ve decided to take it upon myself to; every Friday, choose a particular film photographer that isn’t on the ‘big’ radar and try to spread their work.
Not only is this a way for me to talk about someones’ work but also to spread some followers to acknowledge their photographs.
After each post of this series, i’ll send them a ‘Fanmail’ notice describing that i’ve done a little piece on their work, and why I think it was special. It may be of inspiration, jealousy (location!) or just great photography that I think should be known. If you also have any tips for future postings, please send me a fanmail notice too and i’ll be sure to check it out.
Without further blabbering,

Armed with a Leica M2 and an Summicron 35mm, Voigtlander Nokton 35mm, and a Jupiter 8 (50mm), there is true photography passion within this tumblr.
A Leica M2 is a quintessential Leica, it’s the second model following the M3, and still without a meter. It has numerous little improvements over the latter and an absolute joy to shoot with. To be able to guess the exposure so well is something I adore; as I once also had an M2.

I’ve been following his work for some time now, and it almost has some resemblance of my style but with a bit more bravery.. Alot more actually. Get in there!

It’s always great seeing the photos go up of interactions, moments of time where peoples’ concentrations are peaked.
There’s a consistency of very fine happenings in each of the photos.. It’s a great feature to see as an photographer that he does very well.

Compositionally these are all sound; as most photographers don’t even need to compose they just kind of feel what’s right. I have this feeling this happens as i’ve never really seen a bad photo yet.
There’s a lot of great work on the tumblr, so please check them out.
I hope this is something that’ll catch on and help spread the film photography love!
‘til next friday.
